Cin7 ShipStation Integrationfor Inventory Businesses

Labels print. Tracking numbers come back. Then month end arrives, and the shipping line in your books does not match ShipStation.

Fiskal is a certified ShipStation implementation partner. We connect ShipStation to Cin7 so your warehouse and your financials tell the same story.

01 // The reality gap

Connected does not mean configured.

  • ShipStation Certified Implementation Partner badge
  • Cin7 Accounting Partner of the Year award 2026
  • Cin7 Accounting Partner of the Year award 2025

The integration shows green. Orders move. Labels print. So the setup must be fine.

Not necessarily.

Cin7 offers three ways to connect ShipStation. Each one moves different data in a different direction. Pick the wrong one, or stack two of them, and orders still flow. That is exactly why the problem hides.

You hear it in the office
  • The numbers do not match.
  • ShipStation says one thing. Cin7 says another.
  • We just fix it manually every month.
The monthly fix

A manual fix hides the symptom. The cause stays in the settings.

“There was no system of truth. It was overwhelming.”

Grant Pollack, VP of Finance and Operations, Ghurka

02 // Three connections

Three ways to connect. Each one fails differently.

Which connection you choose decides who drives the data.

  • ShipStation as a store.

ShipStation sends orders into Cin7. It suits sales channels that connect to ShipStation directly instead of Cin7. Cin7 does not send stock quantities back, and carrier and tracking details stay in ShipStation.

  • ShipStation as a Custom Store.

Cin7 holds the orders and ShipStation pulls them. Labels print in ShipStation. Tracking returns to Cin7. Cin7 recommends this when your sales channels already connect to Cin7.

  • ShipStation as a shipping service.

Orders stay in Cin7. You can filter what goes to ShipStation, and labels print from Cin7.

03 // Where it breaks

Here is where we see it break.

  • The order never leaves Cin7.

ShipStation only pulls an order once three things are true. The Pack tab is authorized. The Ship tab holds information with a blank tracking field. The invoice has a number. Set the Pick, Pack, and Ship mode to no picking or auto pick, and the Pack tab never authorizes. The order just sits there.

  • Double Entry Trap

    Two connections, two labels.

Custom Store and the shipping service do almost the same job. Connect both and Cin7 warns it can generate duplicate shipping labels. One order, two labels. That is the Double Entry Trap, on the dock.

  • Timing Gap

The shipping fee misses the invoice.

With Custom Store, Cin7 can bring the shipping fee back from ShipStation, but only while the invoice is not yet authorized. Authorize early and the fee never lands. That is a Timing Gap.

  • Orders skipped on download.

In the store setup, orders are skipped until tax mapping is finished.

  • Inventory State Drift

Canceled in ShipStation, alive in Cin7.

When ShipStation is the store, canceling an order there does not void the sale in Cin7. Someone has to do it by hand. That is Inventory State Drift.

  • Products that do not match.

ShipStation does not support product variations, and it allows duplicate names and SKUs. Cin7 requires a unique SKU. Duplicates produce errors, variations arrive as simple products, and products with no category land in “Other.”

04 // Operational cause, financial consequence

What the dock does to the ledger.

Every setting above has a financial twin.

  • Invoice authorized earlyThe shipping fee never reaches the invoice. An authorized invoice is queued to sync to your accounting application without the fee. The freight figure in ShipStation and the freight figure in your books stop matching.
  • One revenue account settingIn the store setup, an optional setting sends every ShipStation sale to a single revenue account. It overrides the mapping at the product and customer level. Revenue by product line collapses into one line.
  • Daily consolidationIn the store setup, the day’s orders roll into one sale under one placeholder customer. Customer, billing, and shipping details from ShipStation are ignored. Customer level reporting loses the thread.
  • Tax on shippingShipStation records tax as a single amount. Cin7 attributes tax per line. The shipment is taxable setting decides how that amount is spread across invoice lines. It needs a deliberate choice, not a default.
  • Payments left unmappedPayment account mapping is optional. Skip it and payments must be added to invoices by hand. Receivables stay open until someone reconciles them to ShipStation payouts.

Then month end arrives and someone posts a manual journal. That is Manual Journal Distortion. It fixes the number and leaves the cause in place.

The stack

Ghurka ran Shopify, Cin7, QuickBooks Online, Bill.com and ShipStation. Every tool worked. None of them agreed.

What we did

Fiskal rebuilt the financial foundation, configured Cin7 properly, and made the stack tell one story.

“It all feels like one team now. Accounting, systems, reporting. It just works.”

Grant Pollack, VP of Finance and Operations, Ghurka

06 // Strategic impact

What this costs when you are making decisions.

  • You cannot judge shipping cost against margin if the freight line is incomplete.

  • You cannot trust customer reports if orders arrive under a placeholder.

  • You cannot plan for peak season on a connection nobody has checked since it was switched on.

For an owner, the question is simple. Can you trust what the system says about the order, the freight, and the inventory? If not, the connection is the place to look.

07 // What Fiskal does

Audit. Align. Govern.

Fiskal sits on both sides of this connection. We understand how Cin7 and ShipStation are configured. We also understand what your accounting system does with every order, fee, and refund that results. A typical integrator sees the first. A typical accountant sees the second. Fiskal reads both.

  • Audit

We trace an order from sales channel to ShipStation to Cin7 to your accounting system. We check which connection type you use, how Pick, Pack, and Ship mode and invoice status are set, and how tax, payments, locations, and returns are mapped.

  • Align

We set the connection up around how your inventory actually moves, then match the settings to how your books need to see it. That includes the basics that must agree between the two systems, such as currency and units.

  • Govern

We make clear who owns each setting that matters, so one changed setting does not quietly break the data again.

We follow Fiskal’s phases: Stabilize, Implement and Integrate, Ongoing Services. We do not move to the next phase until the data in the current one is sound.

When I found Fiskal, I realized, finally, someone who understands both the systems and the numbers.

08 // Certified partner

Certified by ShipStation.Built for inventory businesses on Cin7.

Certified partners offer four kinds of work beyond standard software setup:

  • Operational optimization.

Assessing existing workflows, refining warehouse layouts, and recommending fulfillment improvements.

  • Team enablement.

Training staff on daily workflows, automation rules, and ShipStation’s inventory, warehouse, returns, exchanges, and analytics tools.

  • System synchronization.

Connecting ShipStation to complex ERP environments and technical stacks.

  • Resource management.

Giving merchants access to outside technical expertise, so internal teams are not stretched thin.

ShipStation certified the partner. Fiskal adds the part behind it: how Cin7 and your accounting system treat every order, fee, and refund that follows.

09 // Questions

Questions we hear

Which ShipStation connection should we use?

It depends on where your sales channels connect. Cin7 recommends Custom Store when your channels already connect to Cin7. The store connection suits channels that connect to ShipStation directly. The shipping service suits teams that need to filter orders before they go to ShipStation. We confirm the right fit in the audit.

Can we connect more than one ShipStation account to Cin7?

No. Cin7 Core accepts one ShipStation account.

Does Cin7 send stock levels to ShipStation?

In the ShipStation store setup, no. Stock quantities are not synced back because of API limitations.

What happens if an order is canceled in ShipStation?

When ShipStation is connected as a store, the sale in Cin7 is not voided. It has to be voided manually.

Does this work with more than one warehouse?

ShipStation supports multiple locations. They are mapped to your Cin7 locations in the integration settings.

Do we need the ShipStation Premium Plan to work with a certified partner?

No. The program is open to any customer. It is designed for brands adopting the Premium Plan.
